Celebrating the life of
Anneliese H. Schweistris
Passed away on November 12, 2024
Anneliese Hogg Schweistris passed away November 12, 2024, at Candler Hospital following a complicated medical illness.
She was born November 15, 1938, in Germany, and spent her childhood in Dillendorf, a picturesque village in the Black Forest near the Swiss border. She was the eldest of six children of Josef and Barbara Hogg. Anneliese obtained her nursing degree in Freiburg, Germany, and spent two years as an operating room nurse in Baden Baden before moving to America where she worked as an OR nurse in Berkeley, CA. She then came to Savannah where she found employment as an OR nurse at Memorial Medical Center and subsequently at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she worked in nursing education while earning her master’s degree in nursing education from Georgia Southern University. During this time, she also met and married Dr. Erich Schweistris.
She and Erich were enthusiastic supporters of Project Dawn and made numerous medical mission trips to their clinic in Guyana, South America.
Anneliese had a passion for gardening and adopted and raised a multiple number of dogs and cats at their historic home, Wild Heron Plantation. She was regarded as a gifted hostess and renowned for her German potato salad and Christstollen, which she prepared for family and friends each holiday season.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sisters, Helga, Ursula, Erika, Irene, and brother, Thomas Hogg. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, all residents of Germany.
A brief memorial service will be held at Fox and Weeks, Hodgson Chapel on Thursday, December 5, 2024, beginning at 2:00 PM, with visitation to follow until 4:00 PM.
Remembrances may be sent to The Humane Society of Greater Savannah (7125 Sallie Mood Drive Savannah, GA 31406), or to a charity of your choice.
Dr. Schweistris, I am sad to see that your beautiful Anneliese has passed away. I have such fond memories of her at Saint Joseph's. She had a wealth of knowledge, not only nursing, but of life in general. May she rest in peace. With love & prayers.

Mr. Eric, I am so sorry about the passing of Miss Anneliese. I am honored that I got the chance to meet her and that I took part in her care. She became my buddy. We laughed together and we prayed together before she went to bed. I am going to miss her laugh and her smile. I will be praying for you and your family during this difficult time. Love Adriane

Eric; I remember well our first meetings at our home at Montgomery on the Bluff. It was about 1980. Recently retired after 50 years of private practice, I look back on the beautiful days of medicine. How wonderful it has been for you to share your life with beautiful Analiese. Sylvia joins me in prayer

Erich, As I type this I have Anneliese's voice in my head saying your name, Erich. I always loved the way she said your name. To me it was so endearing. To you it probably varied depending on the situation. It's really hard to think I won’t get to see her again. She was so strong and German. I thought she would live to be at least 100. I am really happy I got to talk to her at our family's visit. Thank you and Anneliese for saying yes to my Mom. I am forever grateful for that and forever grateful that I had the privilege of eating Anneliese's stolen. I will miss looking forward to it. In my experience, there is no other stolen better than Anneliese's and I have spent time in Germany. love, little Celia.

Dr.Schweistris and family, I am so saddened to hear of Anneliese’s passing. I met her many years ago at St.Joes when she was one of the nurse educators. We became closer friends when she would come to the infusion center. Every Christmas she would make sure to bake us nurses a Christstollen. She was a very special lady and a dear friend! She was loved and will be missed by many! My deepest condolences, Julie Hadden RN
